Your church staff culture isn't what you write on the wall. It's what your team experiences every single day. Today on the podcast, we're going to explore how seemingly small leadership habits can shape the real staff culture at your church. For better or for worse, and we're going to expose the kind of subtle cues that your team is picking up on and help you lead with greater intention and clarity and integrity. Hi there, my name is Todd Rhodes, and I'm the co-founders of Chemistry Staffing, and I'm your host right here on the Healthy Church Staff Podcast. That sounds like a lot to talk about. Your culture isn't what you say it is, it's what your team feels like every time when they walk into a meeting or they get an email or they watch how conflict is eventually handled. And if you're not paying attention, you're still creating culture. Not just the kind of culture that you want or intend. Okay. So we're going to talk about the culture that you're actually building and what to do if it's not what you had hoped or what you had planned. All right. Culture is what you consistently allow. I think that's a really good definition. Culture is what you consistently allow. People don't believe what they preach, what you preach, they believe what you permit. If you allow gossip, that's the culture. If your meetings start late and run long, that's the culture. If staff constantly avoid tough conversations, that's the culture. Culture is what you reward, culture is what you tolerate, and culture is what you repeat. Let me say it one more time. Culture is what you reward, what you tolerate, and what you repeat. And you're always building culture. Even when you're silent, you're building culture. And the truth is, staff notice the disconnect. You may be talking about unity and trust, but if your team is seeing back channeling and powerboarding or passive aggressive leadership, that's what they're gonna believe. And culture isn't crafted, it's observed. How are decisions made? Who gets the mic in the meetings? How is failure handled? And if the answers are inconsistent with your values, your staff are going to see it. And they will adjust accordingly. So what you need to do is start leading with cultural integrity. I think it would be great if you could do a quick audit here. What values are printed on your wall or on your website or in your staff handbook? And then match that up with what actually is happening day to day at your church. Align your behavior with your values. And if there's a gap, you gotta name it. Name the gap if you find it. Ask your staff, what's something that we say we value, but doesn't always show up here. You're gonna be probably surprised at some of the answers. And then what do you do? You do something about it. A healthy staff culture isn't just a one-time initiative, it's a daily decision, every single day, to build culture. Alright, so here's the bottom line for today. You're creating culture, whether you mean to or not. The good news is you can start building a better one today. Right now. I'd love to hear from you. Drop me a line, podcast at chemistry staffing.com. What part of your team culture are you rethinking right now? I'd love to hear from you. Podcast at chemistrystaffing.com.
