Welcome back to the Healthy Church Staff Podcast. Well, the Christmas decorations are coming down, carols have faded from the airwaves, we're all probably feeling a little bit deflated. Maybe I don't know. I'm Todd Rhodes from Chemistry Staffing. Today we're talking about the post-Christmas crash and how to recharge those batteries after the intensity of the holiday season. Let's be honest ministry doesn't exactly slow down after Christmas. It does for a few days, but in fact, for many churches, the new year brings a whole new set of challenges and demands and before we dive headfirst into 2025, it's crucial we take some time to rest and recover. Think of it like a marathon runner crossing the finish line. They don't just jump up and run another marathon the next day. They take some time to rest and refuel and allow their bodies to recover. And the same principle applies to us in ministry. How do you actually do this? How do we recharge our batteries and avoid burnout in a new year? I've got four ideas for you, actually three ideas. I'm not good enough for four ideas, so I'll share three with you today, okay.
Speaker 1:First is prioritize rest. I know, I know, I know, todd, it's easier said than done, but even if you can't get away on a long vacation. Even if you can't take this whole week off schedule, in some downtime, sleep in, read a book, take a walk in nature. Simply do nothing for a while. Your mind and your body and your soul will thank you. So take some time. Last week was busy, man. Take some time to rebuild some of that rest and prioritize that. If you don't prioritize it, it probably won't happen this week.
Speaker 1:Second of all, as part of this, maybe reconnect with your passions. Remember those hobbies and activities that you love but you just haven't had time for lately. Make some time for them this week, whether it's just as simple as playing music or painting or hiking or spending some time with some loved ones or family and friends. Painting or hiking, or spending some time with some loved ones or family and friends Reconnecting with your passions will give you some. It'll re-energize you and bring some joy back into your life. And then, lastly, maybe just practice some gratitude. This is a great week to focus on what's still undone, but also take some time to appreciate all that you've accomplished. Celebrate the successes that you've had. Celebrate what happened, what Jesus and God did at your church and for you personally during the Christmas season. Acknowledge the hard work of your team. These things don't just happen without a lot of intensive labor and love and care being poured into them, and give thanks for the opportunity to serve in ministry.
Speaker 1:Okay, there's your challenge for today. This week we're going to be light and short as well. I know I'm trying to take some time as well, but schedule in at least an hour of me time this week. No work, no church responsibilities. Just take some time to relax, recharge. If you can do more than an hour, that's great. If you can take the whole week, that'd be awesome. Start where you can Maybe it's an hour Do something that you really enjoy, and if you can try to incorporate some of these practices into your daily routine throughout the year, you'll thank me for it. It'll make a huge difference in your life and in your ministry. All right, we will be back here again tomorrow on the Healthy Church Staff Podcast. I hope you'll join me then. Until then, have a great day.
