Speaker 1:

Hey, welcome to the Healthy Church Staff Podcast. I'm your host, todd Rhodes, also one of the co-founders of chemistrystaffcom, and I'm glad you're joining me today. We're continuing our series on navigating this Christmas ministry marathon that we're starting in, and today we're focusing on something that can make all the difference, and that's keeping the why at the center and remembering the heart of Christmas. So in the middle of all the planning and the prepping and the managing, it's easy to lose sight on why we do what we do. So we're going to take a few minutes to refocus and remind ourselves the true heart of Christmas. Now, I know how it goes this time every year. Your to-do list as a church staff member seems endless. Too many things to do, too little times to do it, and everything starts to feel urgent. There are the rehearsals and the events and the last-minute changes and the meetings, and more meetings than you can count. But in the middle of it, it's crucial to keep asking yourself why am I doing this? Because, at the end of the day, it's not about putting on a Christmas, a perfect Christmas production or wonderful Christmas services. It's about celebrating and sharing the birth of Jesus, the moment when hope entered the world in the form of a baby. That's the heart of everything we're doing this season, and it's easy to forget when you're buried in tasks.

Speaker 1:

I love the scripture. We hear it particularly this time of year. It's in Luke, chapter 2, verse 10. It's part of the Christmas story in Luke, where the angel tells the shepherds do not be afraid, I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all people. Today, in the town of David, a savior is born to you. He's the Messiah, the Lord. That's what we're celebrating, that's what we're pointing people to, and if you keep that at the center of everything you do, it will give meaning to every task, no matter how small.

Speaker 1:

I heard a great story about a church that was preparing for their big Christmas service and things were chaotic and everybody's feeling the pressure. But the lead pastor took a moment before one of the final rehearsals to gather everybody on the team and remind them of the bigger picture and to pray together, and he talked about the families who would be coming through the doors, the ones that might be hearing about Jesus for the very first time, and how the efforts of everybody on the team was helping to create an opportunity for those moments to happen. And at that moment it shifted the entire atmosphere. Suddenly, it wasn't just about getting the light cues just right or nailing the music. It was about how to create a space where people could encounter the true message of Christmas. So here's the bottom line for today Take a moment this week and remind yourself and maybe it's important for you to do that for yourself, but maybe it's important for you to do it for your team as well.

Speaker 1:

Remind your team about the why behind all of this extra hard work you're doing for Christmas. Maybe you can do it during a staff meeting, maybe before a rehearsal, maybe even in a quick email, but take the time to refocus on the heart of Christmas. It doesn't have to be long, it doesn't have to be complicated. Just a reminder that all of this is about sharing the good news. That's why we do it. That's what, hopefully, should keep us motivated and help you push through and help our teams push through when the pressure is on.

Speaker 1:
